“The Lord is the portion of mine
inheritance and of my cup: Thou shalt maintain my lot” (Psalm 16:5, Geneva Bible).
He gives it by the means of His Word
through His servants to His Church: “And now brethren, I commend you to God,
and to the Word of His grace, which is able to build further, and to give you
an inheritance, among all them which are sanctified” (Acts 20:32).
He gives it by the means of His Word
through His servants to His Church: “...I have appeared unto thee for this
purpose to appoint thee a minister and a witness, both of the things which thou
hast seen, and of the things in the which I will appear unto thee, delivering
thee from this people, and from the Gentiles, unto whom now I send thee, to
open their eyes, that they may turn from darkness to light, and from the power
of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance
among them, which are sanctified by faith in me” (Acts 26:16-18).
He gives it by the means of His Word
through His servants to His Church: “...we, which first trusted in Christ,
should be unto the praise of His glory: in Whom also ye have trusted, after
that ye heard the Word of truth, even the Gospel of your salvation, wherein
also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with the holy Spirit of promise, which
is the earnest of our inheritance, for the redemption of that liberty purchased
unto the praise of His glory. Therefore also after that I heard of the faith, which
ye have in the Lord Jesus, and love toward all the Saints, I cease not to give
thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers, that the God of our Lord
Jesus Christ, that Father of glory, might give unto you the Spirit of wisdom,
and revelation through the knowledge of Him, that the eyes of your understanding
may be lightened, that ye may know what the hope is of His calling, and what
the riches of his glorious inheritance is in the Saints” (Ephesians
1:12-18).
He gives it by the means of His Word
through His servants to His Church: “Blessed be God, even the Father of our
Lord Jesus Christ, which according to His abundant mercy hath begotten us again
unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an
inheritance immortal and undefiled, and that withereth not, reserved in heaven
for us, which are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation, which
is prepared to be showed in the last time...even the salvation of your souls. Of
the which salvation the Prophets have inquired and searched, which prophesied
of the grace that should come unto you, searching when or what time the Spirit
which testified before of Christ which was in them, should declare the
sufferings that should come unto Christ, and the glory that should follow. Unto
whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they should
minister the things, which are showed unto you by them which have preached unto
you the Gospel by the holy Ghost sent down from heaven...being born anew, not
of mortal seed, but of immortal, by the word of God, Who liveth and endureth
forever. For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man is as the flower
of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower falleth away. But the word of the
Lord endureth forever: and this is the Word which is preached among you” (1
Peter 1:3-5,9-12,23-25).
The Lord comes to us as our everlasting, blood-bought, Spirit-sealed inheritance through the preaching of the Word of God by His servants to His Church. “I will praise the Lord, Who hath
given me counsel...I have set the Lord always before me: for He is at my right
hand: therefore I shall not slide. Wherefore mine heart is glad, and my tongue rejoiceth:
my flesh also doth rest in hope...Thou wilt show me the path of life: in Thy presence
is the fullness of joy: and at Thy right hand there are pleasures forevermore”
(Psalm 16:7-9,11).
