Tell of the Servant-King

“I have made a covenant with My chosen;
I have sworn to David My servant,
I will establish your seed forever
And build up your throne to all generations” (Psalm 89:3,4).

David the servant-king is promised that one of his descendants (“seed” is singular) will reign forever. That Seed is Christ.

He is Servant:
  • “...the LORD was pleased to crush Him, putting Him to grief; if He would render Himself as a guilt offering, He will see His offspring, He will prolong His days, and the good pleasure of the LORD will prosper in His hand. As a result of the anguish of His soul, He will see it and be satisfied; by His knowledge the Righteous One, My Servant, will justify the many, as He will bear their iniquities. Therefore, I will allot Him a portion with the great, and He will divide the booty with the strong; because He poured out Himself to death, and was numbered with the transgressors; yet He Himself bore the sin of many, and interceded for the transgressors” (Isaiah 53:10-12).
  • “...the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many” (Matthew 20:28//Mark 10:45).
  • “Be like men who are waiting for their master when he returns from the wedding feast, so that they may immediately open the door to him when he comes and knocks. Blessed are those slaves whom the master will find on the alert when he comes; truly I say to you, that he will gird himself to serve, and have them recline at the table, and will come up and wait on them.” (Luke 12:36,37).

He is the absolute forever-King:
  • “And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, ‘All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth...’” (Matthew 28:18).
  • “And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David; and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end” (Luke 1:31-33).
  • “...Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth...these will wage war against the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, because He is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those who are with Him are the called and chosen and faithful...He has a name written, ‘King of kings, and Lord of lords’” (Revelation 1:5; 17:14; 19:16).

The right response to the revelation of the Son of David, Who is God’s only Servant-King? “I will sing of the lovingkindness of the LORD forever; to all generations I will make known Your faithfulness with my mouth” (Psalm 89:1).

Tell of Jesus from the Scriptures. Hear the Scriptures tell of Jesus. Rejoice in Him alone.
