From last night’s family devotion: “Even
the Philistines took the Ark of God, and brought it into the house of Dagon,
and set it by Dagon. And when they of Ashdod
rose the next day in the morning, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face on the
ground before the Ark
of the Lord, and they took up Dagon, and set him in his place again. Also they
rose up early in the morning the next day, and behold, Dagon was fallen upon
his face on the ground before the Ark
of the Lord, and the head of Dagon and the two palms of his hands were cut off
upon the threshold: only the stump of Dagon was left to him. Therefore the
Priests of Dagon, and all that come into Dagon’s house, tread not on the
threshold of Dagon in Ashdod, unto this day” (1 Samuel 5:2-5, Geneva Bible).
To put something/someone in a place
of equal importance with the one true God of the Bible in your life, heart, or
mind is dangerous (Exodus 20:1-5//Deuteronomy 5:6-10).
Give God the Son “the preeminence”
(Colossians 1:18)! “...Christ Jesus, Who being in the form of God, thought it no
robbery to be equal with God...made Himself of no reputation, and took on Him
the form of a servant, and was made like unto men, and was found in shape as a
man. He humbled himself, and became obedient unto the death, even the death of
the cross. Wherefore God hath also highly exalted Him, and given Him a name
above every name. That at the Name of Jesus should every knee bow, both of
things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth. And that every
tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is the Lord, unto the glory of God the
Father” (Philippians 2:5-11).
